Zazou

Zazou is an original musical written by musician and actor Noel Carey. It depicts the story of two young boys, one of German decent and Fritz, a boy of Jewish decent, growing up in the Nazi Germany era. The two meet and draw a common bond over music, specifically jazz. When Fritz’s mother finds out about this friendship – she advises that, due to their differences, they don’t see each other anymore. They begin to secretly rendezvous at a jazz club and the tables are turned when they split apart and are brought back together under the wrong circumstances.

Working on an original piece was an enormous thrill. There was nothing previous to base the work off of; there was nothing but our own version of the story. I worked to draw contrast between the world of the speakeasy and the world outside of it. The warmer glow the club vs the colder street in the nighttime. The production was very well received and working on it was certainly a highlight.
