Poison Apple

Poison Apple is, in every sense of the term, a Pop Musical. The show, created by Alberto Familiar, is the story of Snow White, the famed Disney classic, told with a more modernized tale. The story is told in a very nightclub-like atmosphere and pop music is the vehicle for all of the exposition. With techno-popped versions of songs like Naughty Girl by Beyonce and Let Me Entertain You by Robbie Williams the show is extremely high energy with a nightclub feel.

Due to the show’s unique nature and unconventional flow theatrically – I decided to run the show live. My assistant, Grayson Breen, and I preprogrammed a vast majority of looks, effects, and palettes based upon the music. The execution of all of the songs was done in real time to add to the nightclub feel the director was shooting for. Each of the performances was slightly different than the next. The lighting for Poison Apple was organic and changed with the energy of the performance. With an enormous amount of audience interaction, running live was the way to go. As it was a nightclub show with a top-40 tracklist, there was a great deal of movement, rich saturated colors, texture, and strobes. A very interesting theatre piece turned out to be an incredibly fun project.
