Live All Night

Live All Night was a fully student produced pilot of a music series. The show’s premise is centralized around an abandoned warehouse taken over by college students. The hangout plays host to parties, bonding, and musical performances. The pilot’s special musical guest performance was by electro-dubstep-duo Timeflies.

The pilot was advised by Kevin Bright, the co-creator and executive producer of Friends. I worked under the consultation of both Kevin and Bob Dickinson, owner of Full Flood and esteemed lighting designer, to help create a unique feel for such a unique show. The idea was to create an edgy atmosphere unlike any other found on television in this day and age. Through low angles, a tight crowd, quick cuts, and flashy colors – we achieved an underground feel that fit the music of Timeflies and was unique in its execution. The main star of the show, aside from Timeflies, was the backdrop of the warehouse. I used what is known as the Burrito Drop, provided by Atomic Design out of Pennsylvania. The drop consists of dozens of layers of different fabrics and textures. The result is an incredible drop that fits right in with the theme of grungy and edgy.

With segments like “Sleeping with the Band” and “Flip Cup Challenge” the show most certainly grooved with the college theme it set out to portray. They performed four songs and each was successful in its grungy beauty. The low lighting angles, strobes, movement, and timing all lent themselves to an excellent show. Being a percussionist, I was able to assimilate our lighting looks in perfectly with the complex grooves of Timeflies excellent tracklist. Live All Night has certainly been one of the most exciting projects I have yet to work on.

“The directorial approach is energetic and chaotic and the lighting is high contrast and risky…all are right on the spot.” - Robert Dickinson
