EDC | Art In Motion

Emerson Dance Company is the resident dance company at Emerson College in Boston, MA. Their an energetic and exciting family to collaborate with. Each season they perform a showcase. Each show has a concept and there are anywhere between 15 and 25 dance pieces on the program for the night. As EDC’s resident designer, I work with the choreographers and directors over the course of a month to construct the production.

Art in Motion marked a transitional period for EDC as the company moved to its new venue, the Paramount Theater Mainstage. With a company of nearly 200 dancers, and a brand new space – the show was larger than ever before. Due to scheduling with the new venue, I worked off of a plot from a previous show to mold our show. The concept for this showcase was the idea of a single image – come to life. All of the pieces, with varying musical choices, as well as dance genres, exhibited a high energy bringing their single image to life. With little time and a handful of pieces, we worked around the clock to ensure that each piece was spot on. The production was flawless and hopefully engaged the Paramount in a relationship to last over time.
